Electric Buses Are Conquering Europe
Major carriers are switching to electric buses: what it means for passengers.
A Quiet Revolution
FlixBus, BlaBlaBus and national carriers have started mass-purchasing electric buses. By 2027, up to 30% of intercity routes in Western Europe plan to go electric.
What Changes for Passengers
- Quieter — electric buses are nearly silent, improving sleep on night routes
- Cleaner — no exhaust fumes or diesel smell
- More stops — batteries need charging every 300–400 km, meaning 15–20 minute breaks
Leaders
Netherlands — 80% of city buses already electric. Germany — FlixBus launched first electric intercity routes. France — BlaBlaBus testing Paris–Lyon electric route.
Prices
Tickets on electric routes cost the same as regular ones for now.
